Georgina’s story
Georgina grew up in South London’s garage scene, and she was never just on the dance floor. At fifteen she was in studios recording voiceovers and jingles for DJs and pirate radio stations, and the adverts for raves and some of the biggest garage events, and some of that work was played on mainstream radio.
She learned to DJ on vinyl while working at Shed Records, surrounded by industry people and music, and she was trusted early on for her ear. While studying at college she worked Thursday nights in an East London nightclub. Later, in her twenties, she was the main presenter of her own morning drive-time radio show, and she also had a weekly feature on a Sky TV morning show promoting up-and-coming music talent.
She went on to work in clubs and run her own parties and events, and to make her own music, which was featured in a film.
She also built a career in film, working for production companies and working her way up the ladder from assisting to producing. Most recently she was Casting Director and Co-Producer on the feature Rooted Out.
Through all of it she was also performing, and as a represented actor she was not getting what she needed from an agent. She had been casting informally for years, helping people out as and when things came up, when she had a choice to make: carry on working for other people and stay where she was, or build something of her own. She taught herself how to build an agency from the ground up and made Smile Casting her full-time job.
Nearly thirty years into a career in entertainment, Smile Casting is the representation she always wanted: informed, honest and relentless on behalf of its clients.
